It is with great sadness we announce that Richard ‘Dick’ Brightling, aged 91, the founder of Standfast passed away peacefully yesterday evening with his family at his side.
We thank everyone for their kind words and their memories of him.
Here’s one of the many…
As you might know, I first met Dick in 1974 when Kent Police were setting up their Crime Prevention Department and Dick was proudly an integral part of the initial training course, of which I was part of, and was very well respected by all. He had the task of lecturing hardened Police Officers in the world of Alarms and Locks which were very much in their infancy in those days.
Following the establishment of this Department, Dick was always available giving advice/his time to Police Crime Prevention Officers around the county when it was requested, even turning out in the middle of the night on numerous occasions for me personally.
I obviously got to know Dick very well when I transferred from Dover to Thanet in 1986 still as Crime Prevention Officer. He was a delight to work/liaise with and a font of knowledge with regard to his fields.
Dick will be fondly remembered by those of us that knew him well professionally in the Crime Prevention field and as a friend.
Dick is survived by his wife Molly and his two sons Geoff & Charlie who have worked in the business for over 40 years and will continue to take Standfast Security and a strong team into the future.
